Tanyao square is located at the entrance of Yungang Grottoes scenic area, covering an area of more than 6000 square meters.This 6,000㎡square was built to commemorate the pioneer of Yungang Grottoes, the eminent monk Tan Yao. Peripheral gallery and pavilion construction area occupied a third of the whole area. 2 gates are located on the south and north, to the east is a stage, and a platform on the west, which serves as the entrance to the main scenic area with a statue of Tan Yao.
